I found out recently that one of the office buildings I have worked in the CIS office in Manchester had gone to solar power. As part of an overall upgrade of the Grade II listed building, they replaced, in 2005, the existing 40 year old external cladding with a 400ft array of solar panels that produces 180,000 units of green energy.
The 25-storey CIS tower is the one of the tallest buildings in the Manchester area.
It makes my plan to have solar powered water and (maybe) solar powered heating for the pool small beer!
